Volunteer Induction

Our first Volunteer Induction Session, following the recent launch of some exciting new volunteer roles, took place on 18th July at the Focolare Centre in Welwyn Garden City.

What happened on the day?

The half-day event, attended by a small group of keen inductees and existing supporters, went well.

Geoff Brown our CEO opened the session and welcomed the group and then Paul our Communications and Engagement Officer took the lead with a fun icebreaker, which got the group talking and laughing and sharing some insight into their likes, dislikes and backgrounds.  The icebreaker involved the group playing ‘Connect 4’ using large garden play version of the game.

Meg Carter, Chair of the Quality and Improvement Sub-Committee, then did a great job of putting the session into context by setting out the background to the event, the plans for new volunteer roles and the programme for the morning.

Tom Barrasso, our Policy and Partnerships Manager gave an insightful presentation into the purpose, priorities, values and work of Healthwatch Hertfordshire with some great examples of the work completed during the past year as published in our Annual Report.

Next steps

Thanks to our first new Induction Session, we have a number of enthusiastic individuals, who, following further training and shadowing, will soon become fully-fledged members of our amazing volunteering team.    In the future, we will be talking to some of our new recruits to find out exactly what it is that made them want to volunteer for us and what it is like on the front-line being a Healthwatch volunteer.  Before our next Induction Session, we will review the content of the programme to reflect some of the useful and positive feedback received on the day.
