About the Training

We wanted to improve our Enter and View Programme and working with professionals and groups, we recently expanded and redesigned what we were doing to better support people with learning disabilities to become Enter and View Authorised Representatives.

The last couple of weeks have been very exciting for us! Many of you will know that our Enter and View Programme has been well established now for a number of years, and we are fortunate enough to have a brilliant team of volunteers. However, despite the diversity of our volunteers, we have recognised that we have been missing one key thing: the voice of people with learning disabilities.

Getting volunteers signed up

As it’s vital we represent as broad a range of voices as possible, tackling this issue became a priority for us. We also used existing networks and contacts to encourage people with learning disabilities to sign up.

The hard work – both ours and theirs – has paid off and this month, in partnership with the Bishop’s Stortford Day Service, we have trained our first group of eager volunteers. All of our training documents, presentations, and tools are in easy read and we have delivered the course over three days to ensure that it is as accessible as possible for those involved.

What is Enter and View?

Enter and View is one of the statutory powers that Healthwatch Hertfordshire have. It involves us sending trained volunteers – called Authorised Representatives – to go to various health and social care locations and monitor and report on their findings. Paying particular attention to the needs of the people using those services, these reports are then used to help improve things where necessary, which means Healthwatch Hertfordshire Enter and View Representatives are able to have a powerful impact on the quality of the services provided throughout the county.

We have been humbled by the number of people that have expressed an interest in volunteering with us, and thoroughly delighted by the enthusiasm everyone has shown during the training.
