Enter & View: Princess Alexandra Hospital

Our Enter and View volunteers also known as Authorised Representatives have been busy doing visits at the Princess Alexandra (PAH) Hospital in Harlow this month.

Why PAH?

You may be wondering why we, Healthwatch Hertfordshire, are visiting services in Essex… Well, the answer is pretty simple. Despite its location, roughly half the patients that use the Princess Alexandra Hospital are Hertfordshire residents and many use, or are discharged back into, Hertfordshire services following their treatment. The slightly more complicated answer is that West Essex is part of our  Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships ‘footprint', so it is all the more important for us to be involved.

Background to the visit

Princess Alexandra Hospital were rated inadequate by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) last year and they have been working tirelessly to make the improvements that are required. We have been working with them throughout this period and we are hopeful that the Trust will come out of special measures after the fast approaching re-inspection. To help them prepare for this, our Authorised Representatives have been visiting wards and speaking to patients to find out what it is really like to be an inpatient and receive care at the hospital. We will be publishing our report soon which will include all of our findings, and our recommendations.

We would like to thank everyone who was involved in the visits for their hard work, and extremely professional conduct. You really did us proud!
