Healthwatch Hertfordshire Supports Black History Month

October is Black History Month and at Healthwatch Hertfordshire we are committed to this year's theme - Time for Change: Actions Not Words.

We are working with the local NHS to act on recommendations made in our latest Report, Making Local Healthcare Equal: Healthcare concerns in Black and Asian communities and improve the care Black communities receive.

The Report highlights some of the problems faced by Hertfordshire’s Black and Asian communities, providing a rare insight into the deep mistrust and issues that underly their concerns.

Local NHS services have said they will be using our findings and recommendations to take urgent action and tackle ethnic health inequalities. We will be using our holding to account role to monitor these recommendations and meeting regularly with health and social care leaders to ensure they are working to remedy issues.

We are committed to supporting the local Black community in addressing ethnic health inequalities and we will continue to build our relationships and keep the focus on equitable treatment for all.

If you are from a Black community, you can help our work by talking to us about your experiences of local healthcare and sharing your views.
