Meeting with Paul Burstow, STP Chair

Yesterday, our Chair Steve and our Chief Executive Geoff met with Paul Burstow, the new chair of the Hertfordshire and West Essex Sustainability Transformation Partnership (STP) and former Minister of State for Care Services.

As part of Paul’s work to deepen his awareness of the public and patient experience of health and social care within Herts and West Essex, he is meeting with a few key partners. Healthwatch being one of them.

What we discussed

Paul was keen to hear about the work we are doing as part of Healthwatch England’s effort’s to understand how  the public are engaging with the NHS Long Term Plan. This also gave us the chance to highlight the two surveys we’re currently running. One is focusing on what people think should be done to give more control of care whilst the second focuses on asking  what would you do to give people better support?

We also explored ways Healthwatch Hertfordshire and patients could best hold the STP to account, highlighting the importance of the patient perspective being represented at governance level.

Finally, it’s important to underline that throughout discussions Steve and Geoff brought an open and honest insight into the challenges and issues that we are aware of around Health and Social Care in Hertfordshire. Thank you to you for providing your insight, and working with us to help bring about change.
