Temporary change to opening hours for New QEII Hospital Urgent Care Centre due to COVID-19 pandemic

From today onwards (Monday 11 January), the New QEII Hospital Urgent Care Centre for minor illnesses and injuries in Welwyn Garden City will close its doors to new patients at 10pm every day. It will reopen at 8am every morning.

Reasons for the changes

These temporary changes are to allow clinical staff to be redeployed overnight to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, where an increasing number of patients are being treated for COVID-19.

This is a temporary measure, which will be reviewed on a weekly basis.

All patients who arrive before 10pm will have their treatment completed before the Urgent Care Centre shuts at midnight.

Further information

For patients who need to access overnight services, GP appointments will still be available at the New QEII overnight for those who are assessed as needing them by the NHS 111 service.  Patients can do this either:

or by calling 111

Between 8am and 10pm patients with minor injuries or illnesses will still be directed to the New QEII’s Urgent Care Centre, and will be asked to attend alone wherever possible to help maintain social distancing. Please where a face covering unless you are exempt.
